Artist On The Rise

Music is an OCEAN of more than 10 Lifetimes...

Thank you for being part of our zine.  Tell us more about yourself,

when did you know you wanted to be an artist?

I was born in a musical family, learnt my first ghazal (a very beautiful form of Indian Music)

from my grandmom when I was like 2 or 3 years old. She had a music institute and because of that, II got the opportunity

to learn Hindustani classical music from a very young age. Besides music, I also learnt Kathak (An indian classical

form of dance), painting. I composed poetry and songs since I was little. I was lucky to grow up in a creative environment

where I was encouraged to express myself artistically.

Where are you located and where are you originally from?

I am located in Mumbai but I was born in Patna.

 Top musical influences?

I grew up in a very musical family where I got to explore different forms of Indian music. So I always had that side

to experiment different styles of music, kind of fusion.  But, I actually got very much influenced by Western Music

after the song My heart will go on released.  So,  Celine Dion played a very important role in terms of me

exploring western classical kind of music. I love my music to have diversity, because I dont like to just make the same thing again and again, I like versatility and I love making music in different genres. I will never want to be put in a box in terms of

my gender identity and my music. Music is such a big ocean that even 10 lifetimes won't be sufficient to explore it!

Goals for 2019 and beyond?

I am really looking forward to be recognized as an artist and a composer , do a lot of shows in India and around the world

and have the opportunity to collaborate in many new projects. I am thinking about doing a Folk World Music project where

I would visit many small villages in India and collaborate with local artists in regional languages. After that I will like to do another English album, in which I would love to collaborate with more established musical artists from other countries. Let's see what happens!

Which comes first for you the lyrics or the musical inspo?

It depends, but mostly I get inspired by my moods and thoughts and then I write and compose the songs.

Where can our readers catch a live show soon?

India, most probably, as I am from India , But I really would love to tour around the world and perform

at different Queer events and Pride events. Queerism is the album dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ people

around the world.
