The talented Singer/ Songwriter Josh Stephens talks about music influences, his music and what luck means to him!

Where are you located now and where are you originally from?

I am from central Florida, a town called Lakeland. But I am currently living in Nashville, TN. I moved up here for college and music.

Who has been your greatest influence?

That has changed over the years, but some artists who have been steady influences for me are definitely Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, and Charlie Puth. I love that Pop/R&B combination that they tend to implement into their music. There are more for sure, but those three artists really seem to have so much soul in their music and so much emotion and energy. What is your latest and greatest?

My most recent song is a single that just came out on January 8th called Who Taught You. It’s a fun upbeat song that you can dance to, and hopefully makes you feel something. I wrote it with my good friend Nicole Miller and producer Zack Page, who are both great at what they do. I wanted to release a song that everyone could just really enjoy and enable them to let go in the midst of everything going on in the world right now, and I think we did that. What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

I am going to be releasing a lot of new music in 2021 so I am very excited for everyone to hear them. I have been writing lots of songs recently, and it’s finally time to share some of them now. I am also excited just for 2020 to be over as I think most people are. What would you say to your younger self if you could? I know it may sound cliché, but to not be so hard on myself. I think that judgment is the death of creativity, because it brings with it an element of fear, which then you shut down and don’t allow creativity to flow through you.

On a scale from ONE to TEN, how driven are you? Recently, especially with the release of my new single Who Taught You, I would say 9. It certainly varies sometimes depending on the day, but with new music coming out and just having graduated from college, I sort of need to push myself right now as much as I can.

How much do you believe LUCK plays a role in success?

I am not really sure if I believe in luck in the traditional sense of the word, but I do know that the more you put your energy and devotion into something, things seem to start shifting and working in your favor. Honestly, I kind of look at it like for every action there is a reaction, pretty simple. Some might call that reaction luck, or another way of looking at it is you brought it to you by putting in the right type of action and energy needed. How can we stay up to date with you?

Instagram is the main way I communicate with people, so my handle is @joshstephensmusic. I will definitely respond to people who want to communicate with me there.
