UNIQQ MUSIC

Uniqqmusic (a.k.a Uniqq) is a drummer and musical artist (EDM producer).

Thank you for taking this interview! How has the New Year been for you so far as an artist?

I was really looking forward to 2022, entering it with absolutely no material. There was a huge desire to work on something new, but the first track in 2022 was released only in May.

Can you tell us how you've transformed from the beginning to now as an artist?

I started out like most musicians: I was just wondering what music looks like from the inside. Naturally, first projects now sound like a joke and it's better not to listen to them at all. Of course, experience comes with time. I met many artists, they taught me a lot. Now I am very different as a musician from myself a couple of years ago.

How did you come up with your latest project?

We're talking about the latest project, not the release. This project will be released in early July. The project was being prepared for quite a long time, I had an agreement with the artist to do something together. I really liked the vocals he sent to me and it inspired me in some cases to write an instrumental for this track.

Where are you from originally?

I was born in Moscow, Russia.

Where do you live now?

I have changed my place and even my country of residence several times, but at the moment I'm back in Russia. I don't exclude, and rather I'm even sure that in a couple of years I'll change my country of residence again.

Do you think where you live impacts how your music is made?

Definitely yes. Writing electronic music while living in a country where it isn't listened to is quite difficult. It's difficult to look for other artists to work together with. And, of course, music doesn't receive proper attention on the territory of this country.

What was the inspiration to make music your career?

I've been fond of music since childhood. I've been listening to rock since I was 6. After that, around the age of 12-13, I learned about such musicians as Skrillex and Avicii. It was these 2 artists who instilled in me a love for electronic music and in many ways I was inspired by them.

How do you want to shape your career?

I see my career as something that can become my main occupation. That's partly why I want to change my country of residence. Then all I see is more releases, concerts, etc.

Do you work on a tight timeline always or do you go with the flow when it comes to your music?

I don't think that music can be written in a tight time frame or when you are forced to. Music is creativity that should come to you by itself. If you force yourself to write music or try to rush yourself, nothing good will come of it.

How did your latest title of your music come to be?

Here it is worth mentioning about the release, which was released relatively recently. About a year ago I released a track called "Movin'". The guys from our association liked it too. And one of them said that it's worth refining it so that it technically sounds more pleasant. That's how the VIP version of "Movin'" appeared.

Is it hard to let go of the music when it is done?

Honestly, it's extremely hard! When I finish a project, I listen to it 10 times from different devices and speakers, I worry if I did everything well. I will think 1000 times whether it is worth finishing something and only then I'll send the finished project to the manager.

Do you feel an emotional attachment to your music?

Of course I feel. Every project is special to me. Each of them has its own story, which is a reflection of my own emotions. That's why I'm emotionally attached to my music.

How would you describe your music in one word to someone who hasn't listened to it yet?

It sounds almost the same as my artist name - unique.

Where do they go to listen NOW?

The question is complicated. Based on recent events, there is no Spotify in Russia, I almost don't play live shows. However, there are other venues where you can listen to my music.

What has been the best fan reaction to your music?

I always remember the reaction of people when they confused my track "Love Nobody" and Skrillex's track "Mumbai Power".

Is there anything exciting coming up for you?

A Skrillex's track and The Chainsmokers' album have recently been released. I was as intrigued as possible.

Are you performing the song anywhere LIVE?

Definitely not now. However, I don't rule it out in the future. It's worth waiting a bit.
