How has the New Year been for you so far as an artist?
Thank you so much for having me! It’s really been a whole new chapter for me. A Lot of pushing myself out of my comfort zone…doing new things i usually would shy away from weather that be a new writing style or performance tactic, It’s all about growing for me. Within this new year, I got a backing band to perform alongside me so that has been amazing as well!
Can you tell us how you've transformed from the beginning to now as an artist?
Quite a lot, I never thought I'd be where I am now. I always wrote music and sang but since middle school, my background was Musical Theater. I think a lot of artists start out doing musical theater and then venture out onto other things, while always keeping the arts close. I majored in Musical Theater at Five Towns College for 2 years on a scholarship. Once the pandemic hit in 2020, I made the decision to put my broadway dream on the shelf and pursue a Solo Artist career full-time for i was finding myself writing and more in tune with my music than i ever was.
How did you come up with your latest project?
My latest project “No Excuses” comes from a hurt and betrayed point of view; I was in a situation where my significant other (at the time) was making up many lies and excuses after excuses, till I finally reached a point where I had enough.. I had finally caught them in the lies.
So i sat at my computer and poured my emotions out..bitterness and all. giving people something we can all relate to on some level. Once I finished writing the song I took it into RootDeep Studios where I continued to work on and build up the song alongside Drew York, Producer Public, and Blvff. All very talented beings who brought this song to a whole other level and without them, No Excuses would not be, So big shout out and thank you to my RootDeep family for always pushing me!
Where are you from originally?
Long Island, New York
Where do you live now?
Still on Long Island haha! My whole family and everyone I create with and love is here so I currently wouldn't wanna be anywhere else, I do plan to leave eventually though!
Do you think where you live impacts how your music is made?
For sure! I live right in between the Montauk beaches and NYC, an hour to each. So having the ability to explore those places and everything in between creates so much inspiration to pull from.
What was the inspiration to make music your career?
Honestly just watching other artists live out the dream. I very much look up to Alanis Morissette, Hayley Willams, FLETCHER. Seeing powerful women take on this powerful lifestyle gave me the ability to take it on myself. My parents back me in everything I do in music, supporting me from the moment I said I want to do this for the rest of my life. I knew since I was younger I had something to offer the world with my voice. My goal is to inspire and connect with people the same way my inspirations have for me.
How do you want to shape your career?
I want to break the barriers in music. That is my main goal as an artist. To be free and open with no explanation. To be an artist, A Lot of people will tell you, you have to have a specific niche or something tailored to one specific group of people. For me, I don't have a niche. I simply am just me. Doing what I love, and not being boxed in or tied to one specific look, genre, crowd, etc.
Do you work on a tight timeline always or do you go with the flow when it comes to your music?
Always going with the flow. I've learned that's what works best for me. Putting myself on a timeline sometimes leads me to force lines and melodies that may not be what I want for a project. I never expect any of my work to be perfect, but I do expect it to be 100% me and how I want it to be. Sometimes I'll shelf a project if it isn't working for months, years even, and pick it back up when it feels right for me.
How did your latest title of your music come to be?
The title “No Excuses” came from just being fed up with excuses. This song and title really spoke for a time where I was letting people walk all over me and then me taking my power back by saying “No more excuses”, me knowing what I deserve with a bitter touch to it.
Is it hard to let go of the music when it is done?
Absolutely! The recording and creating process is so special and personal for every project I work on. Very bittersweet when it all comes to an end. But it's also just a reminder that the next one is not far behind.
Do you feel an emotional attachment to your music?
Always. My music is absolutely the chaos in my mind and speaks for me when I physically can't. Whatever I can't express in word form, I will sing it. But even in lighter times, I always let music speak for me because it just makes sense for me. I hold all of my music and songs close to me like they are my legitimate children. Watching them grow from the ground up is so rewarding and a process i forever cherish
How would you describe your music in one word to someone who hasn't listened to it yet?
Versatile. Like I said in previous questions, I never limit myself to one genre. I like to dabble in everything. My latest single “No Excuses” showcases my R&B,Pop/Trap side (ex; Ariana Grande, Kehlani, Jojo, Sza) while i have another unreleased single called “Roses” or even my released single “Stories” that showcases a more hard/rock pop/rock element (ex: Paramore, Stand Atlantic, FLETCHER).
Where do they go to listen NOW?
What has been the best fan reaction to your music?
For the pre-release and promo concept of “No Excuses” i opened the song up to the very popular tik tok “Open Verse Challenge” trend giving people and artists a chance to throw down a verse on the song!! 12 days before the release I started my own trend called “The 12 Days Of Open Versus Challenge” each day dropping an open verse submission counting down to the release! So I definitely think seeing and hearing everybodys different takes on the song was the most insane and awesome thing for this single. It just goes to show how creative people are.
Is there anything exciting coming up for you?
SO super much. I'm actually playing at The Spotlight next to The Paramount on May 19th for the first time which is a huge milestone for me. As well as continuing hosting showcases with other artists and performing all over the island. Writing and recording, Currently just taking it one single at a time for now…Hoping to get a first EP out soon!
Are you performing the song anywhere LIVE?
Prior to the release, I was exclusively performing “No Excuses” at select shows teasing the song and building the hype. I recently just showcased “No Excuses” at Long Beach alongside Drew York and Presto DMB for a Cinco De Mayo celebration which was an unforgettable experience. “No Excuses” is the perfect club and break up song to shout along to with your friends and we do exactly just that! NO MORE EXCUSES BABY!
