Lauren Nikohl is a multidimensional singer/songwriter, producer, and DJ with a soulful, powerhouse voice--and she's on a mission to raise the collective consciousness through music. Her primary genres include Indie Pop, Alternative Dance, Deep/Melodic House, and Electronic. Born in Minnesota, this multi-talented artist is now based in Los Angeles. Her vocals are a blend of "Adele meets Stevie Nicks", while her music dabbles between "Chvrches meets Rufus Du Sol", and "Sia meets Monolink".

This budding songstress began singing, playing guitar, songwriting, and playing piano, all before the age of 10, inspired by her music-loving father. Her life-long love for the performing arts has expanded over the past few years into a driven passion to create meaningful change in the world through her music, especially after having a spiritually awakening, out of body experience circa 2016. Lauren released her debut Indie Pop EP, "The Night" in June 2015. She is currently working towards her debut, self-produced album release, “Ascend”, that explores universal consciousness and self awareness.

This young artist explores the nature of reality and spreads awareness of the connectedness of everything, encouraging humanity to always choose love over fear. Lauren hopes that she can help shape mainstream culture into a more compassionate and thoughtful entity by exuding optimism, writing songs that ask the deeper questions, and presenting herself as a role model for people to be more motivated, mindful, and empowered in a world where insecurity, anxiety, and depression are way too common. Lauren Nikohl is taking over the music industry, not only as a superbly talented songwriter, producer, and performer, but as an intellectual entrepreneur, spiritual guide, and light leader for humanity as we navigate this time of great awakening.

Thank you for taking this interview! How has the New Year been for you so far as an artist?

This year has had some exciting new beginnings, and I'm finally getting back out to perform more since the pandemic!

Can you tell us how you've transformed from the beginning to now as an artist?

I grew up loving to sing and write songs, and my writing has almost always had a very optimistic style throughout the years. In 2016 I experienced a spiritual awakening, and since then, much of my writing goes a lot deeper into esoteric concepts, exploring universal consciousness, and deep self reflection. My musical style has shifted over the years from Singer/Songwriter, to Pop/Soul, to Indie Pop, and now to a range of House, Electro-Pop, and Alternative Dance/Electronic. My motivation for writing has mostly stayed the same, and that is to uplift and inspire people, and spread more love in the world. I started as a singer/songwriter, and now I'm a multidimensional singer/songwriter/producer/DJ!

How did you come up with your latest project?

The project I'm working on currently is my debut album "Ascend", and the idea for it came after having my spiritual awakening experience. I started writing a lot of music about spirituality and the nature of consciousness, and wanted to create a work of art to reflect my own ascension process so that it could inspire and help others who are going through the same.

Where are you from originally?

I grew up in Shoreview, Minnesota--a very quiet, suburban area near the Twin Cities with lots of lakes! Where do you live now?

I am in sunny Los Angeles, close to the San Gabriel Mountains.

Do you think where you live impacts how your music is made?

Absolutely! I grew up as a singer/songwriter, but moving to Los Angeles made me fall in love with the electronic music scene, so now I have been experimenting with electronic production.

What was the inspiration to make music your career?

Mostly my father, who is also a singer/songwriter/musician. Music is his favorite pastime, something that brings him a lot of joy, and I learned a lot of my musical skills from him. I was very inspired by the way he loved to create and perform, even though it wasn't his career path. Once I started writing and performing my own music, I fell in love and knew I wanted to pursue it.

How do you want to shape your career?

I envision myself performing my hybrid DJ/Live act at festivals, and releasing DJ sets on YouTube. I also want to create intentional spaces for acoustic concerts and sound healing. I love both performance styles, and want to do a little of each. I am excited by the prospects of releasing my music as NFTs, and am also looking to get my music published in Film & TV. The future's so bright for independent artists!

Do you work on a tight timeline always or do you go with the flow when it comes to your music?

I typically go with the flow and create when I feel inspired, but lately I've been trying to find ways to self-discipline, since it's hard to finish anything if you're only working when you're inspired. I'm trying to find a balance.

How did your latest title of your music come to be?

One of the latest songs I wrote is "Who Am I?", and it came from my existential questioning of the universe. I think this is one of the greatest existential/philosophical questions of all time, and I wanted to explore this concept more in depth with my perspective on who we are and why we're here.

Is it hard to let go of the music when it is done?

Super hard! I am a bit of a perfectionist, and it almost feels like the song is never truly "done", because there are so many infinite ways you could change it or add to it. At some point though, you have to decide that you like the way it sounds currently, maybe get some feedback from friends or family, and put a cork in it.

Do you feel an emotional attachment to your music?

Yes! It's honestly hard for me sometimes to let other people be a part of my music creations, because I feel so attached to them. My album is like my baby that I've been nurturing and shaping. Many songs of mine are very cathartic for me to sing.

How would you describe your music in one word to someone who hasn't listened to it yet? Inspiring

Where do they go to listen NOW?

All links can be found here: What has been the best fan reaction to your music?

One time a fan told me that they were getting the word "Karma" tattooed that week, and they happened to find my music video for the song "Karma" that same week. They said it made them cry happy tears, and that they were so grateful for finding my music because they felt lonely in being the only spiritual person in their community.

Is there anything exciting coming up for you?

I recently booked a monthly DJ residency at a lounge in Beverly Hills, and I'm planning my album release soon!

Are you performing the song anywhere LIVE?

No live performances booked currently, but be on the lookout for YouTube livestream concerts & DJ sets!
