Christina Jewell is an alternative pop artist from Toronto, Canada. She favours electronic production, vibrant instrumentation, and ethereal vocals.
Thank you for taking this interview! How has the New Year been for you so far as an artist?
I’ve been taking it slow since the new year. A friend of mine is writing an insane record and it’s been fun to just watch the process.
Can you tell us how you've transformed from the beginning to now as an artist?
I was unprepared for how long it can take from concept to release. It used to stress me out but now I’ll take the time. Also I am grateful to not do things alone. I usually work with a label called Hermit Poems
How did you come up with your latest project?
My last song “Snow” exists because I am obsessed with snow and my boyfriend sometimes presents me with his cool original soundtracks. Very easy to write with him.
Where are you from originally?
I’m from Ontario. I lived all over Canada growing up but it’s Ontario for me.
Do you think where you live impacts how your music is made?
Where I “dwell” impacts it. I have a hard time getting inspired in the city.
What was the inspiration to make music your career?
I wouldn’t say music is my career. It’s a hobby at best. I was raised in a very musical house- guitar, choir, violin. It’s always something I could do so I finally tried it for real one time.
How do you want to shape your career?
I want to make a catalogue that I can chill out to. I have made some songs that I don’t listen to, so, I’d like that to change.
Do you work on a tight timeline always or do you go with the flow when it comes to your music?
No timelines! No stress
How did your latest title of your music come to be?
I usually take the title from the standout word in the chorus right. So it’s usually pretty intuitive.
Is it hard to let go of the music when it is done?
A bit. Hard to decide it’s done and let it live.
Do you feel an emotional attachment to your music?
Yes.
How would you describe your music in one word to someone who hasn't listened to it yet?
It’s hopeful. hopeful/contemplative haha

Anywhere! iTunes, YouTube, Spotify, Google Play, all the good stuff.
What has been the best fan reaction to your music?
I changed my artist name a year ago and I have one fan who didn’t realize and they messaged me asking where they could find my experimental song “ocean bay” because it was “that kinda day”
Is there anything exciting coming up for you?
Yeah! I have a fun summer song “Runaway” coming out in July.
Are you performing the song anywhere LIVE?
Probably not. Maybe. I haven’t done much of that so far.
