THE GLAM OF PUNK AND POP WITH ROXX REVOLT & THE VELVETS

Interview with Roxx Revolt & The Velvets:

Where are you located now and where are you originally from? We are located in Naples FL, Chris and Jake are from Naples, Dan is from Chicago and Roxx is from Venezuela Do you think where you live influences your music? How? Nah. If it did, we’d be a Jimmy Buffet cover band haha. When and how did you come together as a band? Roxx started looking for musicians for her original project, went to some open mics and gathered all the members How did you come up with your band name? Roxx: Roxx Revolt was my solo name before, revolt against the (by the time) dead status of rock music. Velvets was picked by the guys, they wanted something that denoted power but in a more subtle way.

What made you pick up the instruments that you were interested in? Roxx: nothing, i just always wanted to sing and entertain audiences. Dan: Everyone played guitar and there was no more room for a guitarist, so I chose a bass. Jake: was always drawn to guitars and guitar driven music from a young age and eventually picked one up Chris: My dad has been playing Metallica (and lots of other trash metal) since I was in the womb. He started my love for music, so he and my mom got me my first kit for christmas when I was 3. Can you explain your sound and how it has evolved?

Roxx: We keep evolving through time, but I would describe our sound as a raw mix of punk, a little bit of pop and glam.

Who has been your greatest influence in music? Roxx: The doors, Courtney Love, Marc Bolan. Dan: Metallica, all sorts of thrash, STP, AIC, pretty much all classic rock Jake: anything 70’s English Blues/Rock and Roll, Ty Segall, The Vines Chris: Led Zeppelin, Tame Impala, Metallica, Jazz (in general). Big mix of shit. When you're not feeling motivated how do you get back on track?

Roxx: I just let things fall back on track by themselves, you cannot force that creative feeling. Dan: I give in and forget about it. Like Roxx said, can’t force it. Something, somewhere, will pull me back. Jake: Finding inspiration in new places helps. New art, new music, new styles of playing. Like Roxx and Dan said, you can never force it because it won’t come out right. Chris: Like pretty much everyone has said, I don’t try to force it. I just take a step back from whatever I'm doing if I feel burnt out and let my ears and head rest. Just try to naturally get back into the GROOVE of things. HA How much do you believe LUCK vs. HARD WORK plays a role in the success of your music?

Roxx: I think there's plenty of talented people out there so hard work will probably make you stand out from the rest, luck is necesary but you gotta put yourself in the right situations for it to find you. How did you deal with all the changes in the past few years that the music industry has gone through?

Roxx: By just keep going, finding inspiration in all scenarios is a must.

What would you say to your younger self if you could?

Roxx: Dont worry about what others think, just do Dan: If you want to do it, then do it. Thinking about it won’t get shit done. There’d be a couple of stock tips too. Jake: don’t be so shy and put yourself out there more, it’s not as scary as you think Chris: Slow down, enjoy the process and the experiences. Everything eventually will work out with enough effort. What's touring like with a band?

Roxx: It is kinda like forming a big family bond, you get to do all these things you dreamed of with people you trust and love. Dan: the feeling when you pull into a new city, not knowing anything about it vs the time you leave the city and now know places and have friends there…really cool feeling. Plus with 3 other people, you may experience some things that you wouldn't do alone. Jake: learning more about each other and becoming closer than ever. It makes the music and the shows better too, being locked in a van for days on end with 3 other people. lots of interesting smells in the van too Chris: I don’t think there’s anything I love more than touring other than creating with the band. Being able to travel with essentially your second family and play music together almost every night is a very valuable experience. It’s a surreal experience for sure. O and what Jake said about the van lol. Are you performing live soon?

Roxx: We've got a full slate to end the year and then hit the road in 2023. What are you most looking forward to most as this year wraps up and for the new year? Roxx: looking forward to releasing our full length album, and then touring and meeting our fans!
