We agree with you, Mars, potatoes are so VERSATILE!!!

Hi Mars! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us!

Of course, I’m so excited to talk to you!

How does your music affect the world?

I’d like to think that by speaking about my experiences with mental illness in my music shows others that they’re not alone in their struggles. That someone else understands how they feel. Also as a non-binary, queer, and indigenous person, I think that my presence in a largely cisgender, white, and male-dominated field shows other people in minorities that they can strive to make changes in the workforce.

Who has been your biggest cheerleader as an artist?

My friends have been the most supportive, whether it be by letting other people know about my music, or downloading it themselves, just by being there for me as a friend always motivates me to flourish more as an artist.

Tell us about your latest release!

My latest release is my EP: “Rosewater” which is made up of three songs. The first: “I Feel Sad Today,” is a melodic song that talks about depression and how someone versus other people might see it. “Fool’s Gold” is the second track which is full of harmonies, and speaks about depression again and how it can make contentment feel impossible. The last song on “Rosewater” is a remake of Billie Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes.”

What are you most looking forward to this year?

It’s probably a three-way tie between building my musical career and creating more art, going back to study music on campus at Carleton University, and seeing my friends after the lockdown in Ontario ends.

How do you find peace in an often chaotic world?

In little moments. It’s always hard to realize what peace is in terrible times like the COVID-19 pandemic but little things always bring me back, like cuddling my pets, finishing a song, and drinking a warm hot chocolate.

What does "making it" mean to you?

“Making it,” for me, means reaching a lot of people’s hearts and helping them through my music, whether it be ten or millions.

What have been some of your greatest achievements as an artist?

Probably when my friends, who are also brilliant musicians, and I played several food truck festivals around the GTA. It really confirmed my love for performing live for lots of people. I’m also currently nearing 100 written songs, which I’m so excited to put out into the world one day.

What is your favorite breakfast food?

Definitely hashbrowns. Potatoes are so versatile, which is much appreciated by my stomach.

Where can our readers go to learn more about your projects?

They can go visit my Instagram which I most frequent, as well as following my Spotify and Apple Music pages, I’m under the name Mars!, including the exclamation mark.

Thank you for your time!

Thank you for having me, I really enjoyed talking.
