SITTING WITH BROOKE OWENS

Thank you for taking this interview! How has the New Year been for you so far as an artist?

Thanks for having me! The New Year has been eventful! I finished school to become a counselor and have been growing my practice over the last few months helping couples and individuals using artistic and body/based therapy methods. As an artist, I’ve taken this time to write and reflect and really intersect my work as a singer and as a therapist- fully studying human beings and wanting to foster healing for others.

Can you tell us how you've transformed from the beginning to now as an artist?

The biggest transformation has been with my pace. I wanted to hit the ground running with my first single in 2021, but I realized how much patience I need to have in the music industry and with myself. Rushing yourself to be creative is a recipe for burnout.

How did you come up with your latest project? My last single Ruthless came out a year ago and I wrote about my experience with my divorce the previous year. 2020-21 were big years for me in terms of self growth and realizing how to have healthy relationships and mourn my marriage. Ruthless is all about staying strong with my personal boundaries to protect my energy and time. Where are you from originally?

Atlanta, GA Where do you live now?

Atlanta BB! Do you think where you live impacts how your music is made? Definitely- Atlanta is a music hub. I’m still discovering my sound but currently it’s a mix between an ethereal, soulful sound and pop. What was the inspiration to make music your career? Music is one aspect of my career. I’ve been a professional actor since I was 20 and just started working as a counselor as well. I also make music. I’ve never wanted to be just one thing and now all of my jobs circle around people and what makes them tick and I love it. How do you want to shape your career?

I want to build a business- have autonomy over what I produce and how I do it. Do you work on a tight timeline always or do you go with the flow when it comes to your music?

I usually go with the flow- I love making music and I don’t want it to lose all joy for me in the name of fast production and marketing. How did your latest title of your music come to be?

Ruthless describes how I’ve had to be with previous relationships- where previously I’d let them back in and not protect myself, now I see my own value and how fiercely I need to protect it. Is it hard to let go of the music when it is done? Absolutely. It’s hard for me to know when a song is finished. I’m always tweaking something or wondering if there’s a way to make it more potent. Do you feel an emotional attachment to your music?

1000%. It’s written about my life and there’s a vulnerability in sharing that. How would you describe your music in one word to someone who hasn't listened to it yet? Intimate. Where do they go to listen NOW? My music is out on all platforms under brook! What has been the best fan reaction to your music? When people tell me the song has personally impacted them- that they relate and feel less alone. That’s an amazing connection to have. Is there anything exciting coming up for you? I have more music planning to come out in the next year so stay tuned. Are you performing the song anywhere LIVE As of now, no. But I do have a live studio version of my first single “Steady As You” available on YouTube under brook music. Give us all your socials and links so fans can link up with you!
