LEE WAS BORN AND RAISED ON THE SUNNY COAST OF DURBAN (SOUTH AFRICA) SPENDING MOST OF HIS DAYS OUTDOORS. HE LOVED SINGING, EVEN DURING SCHOOL WHEN HE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE LEARNING. YOU WOULD OFTEN FIND HIM AT THE BACK OF THE CLASSROOM, SINGING WITH FRIENDS TO BOYS 2 MEN HARMONIZING WHILE THEY PRACTICED FOR ANY TALENT SHOW THAT WOULD COME THEIR WAY. HE GREW UP LISTENING TO ALL GENRES OF MUSIC, FROM MICHAEL JACKSON TO THE FOO FIGHTERS. IF IT HAD A GREAT BEAT OR IT LYRICALLY HAD MEANING BEHIND THE SONG, HE WAS INTO IT. MUSIC HAS ALWAYS BEEN HIS PASSION. HE ATTENDED PIANO LESSONS AS A YOUNG BOY, WHICH GAVE HIM GREAT GROUNDING ON HOW MUSIC CAN BE INTERCEPTED AND HOW MEANINGFUL A NOTE CAN SOUND. HOWEVER, HE JUST FELT AT THE TIME IT WASN’T COOL ENOUGH AND DECIDED TO FOLLOW HIS FRIENDS RIDING SKATEBOARDS AND BMX BIKING. TWELVE YEARS LATER, HE DECIDED TO PICK UP HIS FATHERS GUITAR AND STRUMMED A NOTE THAT SOUNDED FAMILIAR TO HIM. HE TURNED AROUND AND ASKED HIS FATHER WHAT CORD WAS THAT? “EM” HE SAID. HE THEN DECIDED TO BORROW THE GUITAR AND TEACH HIMSELF HOW TO PLAY. HE STARTED PLAYING SONGS THAT HE KNEW THE LYRICS TO AND ENJOYED LISTENING TO AS A KID. HE CAUGHT ON QUICK AND PLAYED COVER SONGS AND MADE THEM HIS OWN. HE EVENTUALLY STARTED WRITING HIS OWN MUSIC AND HAS RECENTLY PUBLISHED THEM.
How has the New Year been for you so far as an artist?
This is the first year I have had the opportunity to release my own music. It has been pretty busy and exciting at the same time.
Can you tell us how you've transformed from the beginning to now as an artist?
I have always been able to play various instruments from a young age. Music has always been a passion of mine but I have just never had the chance to pursue it professionally. With the positive feedback from my cover songs, I decided it was time to start writing my own music.
How did you come up with your latest project?
My latest project is my new single "Save You". This one I had the opportunity to work with my cousin (Vaughn Mittens) who is based in Australia. I originally created the guitar riff and I wanted to utilize the range of my voice into the chorus displaying my vocal capabilities. I just needed to come up with the perfect storyline behind the song.
Where are you from originally?
Where do you live now?
Do you think where you live impacts how your music is made?
Not really. However, it may inspire you lyrically.
What was the inspiration to make music your career?
I have always had a passion for music and singing. Listening to my dad playing his guitar at night and watching artists perform live and on television.
How do you want to shape your career?
I would like to collaborate with similar artists that have the same passion that I have and have the opportunity to perform at live shows. This will allow me to share my music with the rest of the world.
Do you work on a tight timeline always or do you go with the flow when it comes to your music?
In an ideal world I would like to work on a tight timeline but unfortunately because my network is spread globally it does end up going with the flow. Ideally I would like to connect with someone more local and work on as many projects as possible.
How did your latest title of your music come to be?
The song is called "Save You" and based on the song, it is generally the question of who is going to save you when you need them the most.
Is it hard to let go of the music when it is done?
I'm a very particular individual and never quite satisfied with the final product because I always think it could be better .
Do you feel an emotional attachment with your music?
Yeah I do feel emotionally attached to some of my songs. However, some of them might not be based on my personal experience but these are life experiences that people do go through. Which is why some people can relate to them differently.
How would you describe your music in one word to someone who hasn't listened to it yet?
Where do they go to listen NOW?
My music is available on all streaming platforms. Spotify, Youtube, Amazon music, Apple etc.
What has been the best fan reaction to your music?
Very positive, the feedback has been overwhelming to say the least. The support has been great and I can't thank them enough.
Is there anything exciting coming up for you?
Yes, I will be releasing the music video for my latest single "Save You". I also have new music coming soon which I am looking forward to sharing.
Are you performing the song anywhere LIVE?
Unfortunately I don't have any gigs lined up yet. However, when that opportunity comes I will be performing this song and many more.
