Today we are getting to know singer/songwriter, Jack Charles!!!
Hi Jack! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us today!
How does your music affect the world?
I believe my music keeps the torch of art turned on. I approach my music as an art form, as opposed to following a trend or actually looking to make pop music (which I wouldn't mind trying at some point). I'm focused on what I need to express at the moment, or perhaps experiment with genres that interest me. Most of my lyrics are autobiographical, but I feel many people can relate to them; whether it's heartbreak or orgasms, or those haunting ghosts from the past, people can feel like "yeah, I've been there." Making you feel and think, that's what art is all about.
Who has been your biggest cheerleader as an artist?
My three lifelong friends have been my biggest cheerleaders. They are the ones that have known me through thick and thin, and actually understand me more profoundly than most. They want to hear and see more! I'd have to add my band members and collaborators, they want to work with me more.
Tell us about your latest release!
Until The Sun Dies is the perfect 2020 single, not only because it encapsulates the life experience of a challenging journey to becoming an artist, but it also has the pandemic experience as lived by an artist in isolation draped over it like a veil. When I wrote the lyrics I realized this song is a spiritual contract between Myself and the Universe; it's a commitment to the pursuit of art until the very end and in spite of the consequences. Obviously, it has drama and passion, and I love the way it begins in the misty moodiness and slowly grows like a swelling tsunami before returning to a misty, magical end. I loved teaming up with producer/musician Joe Stacey once again (Joe produced my 1st album The Ante Mortem Songbook), and co-writing the music with Andre Lovrekovic.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
I look forward to an end to the pandemic so I can get together with my band and play live again. My band is so awesome, it's like having a brand-new Cadillac parked in the garage with nowhere to go! I really miss the stage.
How do you find peace in an often chaotic world?
The only place you can feel peace is within yourself. Mindful meditation and long walks alone are helpful to create inner peace. If I can maintain my peace I can weather the storm.
What does "making it" mean to you?
"Making it" is paying the rent and the energy bill with your artistic work. Anything above that is simply frosting on the cake.
What have been some of your greatest achievements as an artist?
Making it happen is my greatest achievement. From becoming a songwriter to producing my first album to putting my amazing band together. Every day.
