Get to Know Lisa Richards!

Where are you located now and where are you originally from? I live in Canberra, which is the Capital of Australia. I was born in Townsville, North Queensland Australia and I lived in NYC and Austin Texas for a combined 22 years Who has been your greatest influence? That's always a tricky question. I don't think I have control over a lot of the influences.. So I'd say my greatest influences are not necessarily things I choose to listen to, my parent's taste in music, my brothers and sisters (I am the youngest of 8 children) musical tastes. Basically everything I have ever heard in my life. I love the artistry of Nina Simone, Leonard Cohen for words, Tom Waits for attitude, Sia for being a pop goddess, Billie Eilish for changing the rules... There is so much great music out there. What is your latest and greatest? Mmmm, I'm not sure what that means... My new relationship with recording is pretty great... Lockdown ending is pretty great... Having plans for touring is amazing... Seeing people I love again that don't live in my household... What are you most looking forward to this year? Touring again... in 2022. And travelling. It has been such a strange couple of years. What would you say to your younger self if you could? Pay no attention to the thoughts and opinions you have of yourself or others. I thought I was already too old to be successful at 21... I had missed the boat. At 30, I cried all day long because I thought I was a failure. After making 7 albums with producers, I just started recording and producing myself and it is so liberating. It is something I thought I would 'NEVER" do because I just 'didn't have the skills or instincts' . I will release my first self produced album early in 2022... NEVER say NEVER! On a scale from ONE to TEN, how driven are you? Well my friends would tell you I'm very driven and I think I'm lazy! So maybe an 8 When you're not feeling motivated how do you get back on track? I just start doing the thing. Whatever the thing is. If I waited for motivation, I wouldn't do anything. So I imperfectly put one foot in front of the other and then give myself a huge pat on the back for doing 'the thing' How much do you believe LUCK plays a role in success? I agree with the notion that luck is preparedness meeting opportunity... And I do think it's a function of doing 'the thing' and putting one imperfect foot in front of the other.
