Metal-core duo Mesker bring their unique volatile rock to the mainstream. Merging frenzied sonic mediations with the vulnerability of heart-on-sleeve plaintiveness, Mesker’s brand of metal-core covers the extreme ends of both the emotional and sonic spectrums. With a sound that artfully articulates the passion of metal-core's technicality with high energy music and frantic melodic riffs, Mesker’s unpredictable and unconventional song structures set them apart from their contemporaries. The two-piece act tackle unusual time signatures, keeping audiences on their toes, creating a genuine interplay, giving their music an intriguing amount of depth. Based in London, the duo are the definition of DIY. Having recorded, written and produced this upcoming release at home. Mesker’s lyrics are based upon hard hitting topics such as substance abuse, illusion of choice, and fear of failure.
Thank you for taking this interview! How has the New Year been for you so far as an artist?
This year has been great so far - we released our first ever song and have been working on a lot of new stuff... we have some exciting plans for 2022.
Can you tell us how you've transformed from the beginning to now as an artist?
Well it hasn't been long for us, we only started as a band this year... but we learnt a lot from recording our Casual Freedoms EP and we'll definitely take those things forward with us.
How did you come up with your latest project?
We wanted to make an EP that had huge energy, intensity and really makes you feel it. As for how we wrote it, most of our stuff starts by me coming up with a load of riffs and song parts, and then later we work together on vocals / arrangements / edits.
Where are you from originally?
Where do you live now?
What was the inspiration to make music your career?
We've both been in bands and writing songs since we were kids - it's just what we do.
How do you want to shape your career?
The number one goal is to make good music that adds something new to the scene, so for now we're just focused on writing and we'll see where it goes from there...
Do you work on a tight timeline always or do you go with the flow when it comes to your music?
A bit of both! We like to set ourselves loose goals, but sometimes writing/recording takes longer than you expect and you can't rush it.
How did your latest title of your music come to be?
"Casual Freedoms" is a theme that comes up a lot in the EP... taking your time for granted and stuff like that, so we thought it encapsulated the overall message nicely.
Is it hard to let go of the music when it is done?
Yeah it's pretty hard to see people listening to your new song on their phone speakers.
Do you feel an emotional attachment with your music?
For sure. The lyrics are personal and about subjects that really matter to us, and the music carries all the influences of being life long fans of heavy music... so yeah but emotionally invested is probably the better way to describe it than "attached".
How would you describe your music in one word to someone who hasn't listened to it yet?
Where do they go to listen NOW?
Find us on Spotify! https://open.spotify.com/artist/1yku3uETY61xQiKSF4J3wb?si=zO6Fiir2SJ2IglDlgQuHXQ
What has been the best fan reaction to your music?
People DMing us with reactions to parts of our songs is always awesome to see.
Is there anything exciting coming up for you?
Our "Casual Freedoms" EP is dropping on May 13th and we really can't wait for people to hear it. Also check out our latest single which came out on April 29th "When the Fabric Frays"
Are you performing the song anywhere LIVE?
We're not playing live just yet - but we'll announce it on our socials when we do...
Give us all your socials and links so fans can link up with you! Thank you for this interview!
