We had the pleasure to interview the Award Winning Singer/ Songwriter Kim Cameron about her upbringing, who keeps her uplifted and you'll see just why she is uplifting us!!
Where are you located now and where are you originally from?
I live in the heart of Miami Beach, Florida, where the sunshine’s 355 days a year and the ocean blows beautiful winds on my balcony each and every day. I grew up in southern California in a town called Thousand Oaks. So, yes, I was a Valley Girl. And, while I loved living in California as a child / teenager, my true home is in Florida. I guess being around a lot of oranges and Vitamin C makes me smile wider.
Who has been your greatest influence?
It really depends on the subject. I attribute leadership skills to my long time mentor who resides in New York. He taught me that to be a leader, you must act like a leader and set an example you can be proud of. Musically, I fell in love with art while growing up and dancing with my father in the living room as he spun Cat Stevens, Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and Johnny Cash. My mother introduced me to the clarinet when I was 6, and by the age of 7, I was performing on stage as a lead vocalist. When it comes to songwriting, as an adult, I find my influences range from friends that tell me great stories, or from listening to artists who speak to me through their lyrical content like Sweet Baby James, or Nora Jones.
What is your latest and greatest?
I just finished two albums and a single. All wildly different. One album is the Soundtrack to my upcoming full length feature film ‘Seaper Powers,’ which is based off of my first children’s book “In Search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure.” The Soundtrack has some Reggae, Rock, Jazz and Pop songs (18 altogether!) that John DePatie and I wrote together. The second album is called ‘Connecting to Animals’ and is a children’s album filled with spoken word, calypso and reggae sounds that I also co-wrote with John. This album has already received several awards (Mom’s Choice, Tillywig and NAPPA) which is very exciting to me. I wanted to put an album out that had the right kind of messaging for young ears. And, my newest single, which I am in the process of creating the script for the music video, is called “Show Me You Feel”. Very much a dance / electro pop song about how important it is to turn our electronic devices off and just love.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
Touring and getting the vaccine!
What would you say to your younger self if you could?
Gosh, what a loaded question. Learn guitar. I am learning it now, but really, I wish I had started that about 20 years ago. There is something magical about the guitar, especially for songwriters.
On a scale from ONE to TEN, how driven are you?
Definitely a 10. I mean, the music business and film business is super super super hard. If you are not driven, then turn around and go back to bed.
How much do you believe LUCK plays a role in success?
There is definitely a little luck in everything, but you cannot count on luck for success. Hard work always is the answer to successful outcomes. The days when I feel ‘lucky’ however, are some of my favorite!
How can we stay up to date with you?
