Australia to Nashville with Katrina Burgoyne
Where are you located now and where are you originally from?
I'm originally from Australia and I now live in Nashville, TN - quite the journey!
How long have you been Nashville?
I've been here about 4 years. I perform country music all around town when the world isn't completely shut down, haha!
Who has been your greatest influence?
When I was growing up, I was definitely inspired by Shania Twain. Her femininity and sass is timeless! I also love the song "The House that Built Me". It's just one of those feel-good storytelling songs that showcases what country music is all about.
Personally, my mom is my rock. I moved out here on my own a world away from where I grew up - it was bloody terrifying! She was the someone who helped me believe that I could do it. When you grow up in an old country town, you're used to hearing that the furthest you'll ever get is Sydney. I was told I was dreaming all my life and my mom was my constant through it all.
How has the pandemic affected you as a musician?
I'd say it's definitely forced me to reflect on how I was living my life. I felt like I was constantly spinning like a hamster in a wheel which is no way to spend your energy. With fewer distractions, it's been much easier to calmly plan out what I'm doing next instead of working to survive.
What is your latest and greatest?
Once the pandemic hit, I released a constant stream of singles every 2 months or so. 25 cents in the ashtray was my latest release about moving out to the USA and chasing my dream with 3 suitcases and a guitar.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
Playing out again! I love performing and it energizes me!
