An Interview with KORYNN OC

Hello Korynn OC! How did you get started in the industry? I’ve always loved to sing! As a child, my dad would play guitar at bedtime to help me and my siblings go to bed but I would always sing along. My parents decided to put me in choir and vocal lessons where I started performing out around 6 years old and I loved it. My dad and I started a band in middle school with some of my friends and that’s when I first started writing my own music. Later in college, I studied abroad in Montreal and spent a lot of my time there writing, that’s when I dropped my very first “EP” titled “Coast to Coast” and decided that I wanted to take my artistry more seriously. What's your biggest motivation? Music is such a big part of my life. I love music that makes you feel something. It can make your good times better and help you feel like you’re not alone during the bad. I want my music to touch peoples lives the way other artists have touched mine. Who are your biggest inspirations? Love love love Lana, Joji, Banks and Billie Eilish. What is your greatest accomplishment yet? I got to perform at the flagship Apple store in San Francisco which was such a dope experience! They had my photo up on the huge LED display wall, you could see it from the street! Some really cool artists I look up to have performed there before too. It was a lot of fun for sure. What advice would you give to young creatives looking to do what you're doing? Start your journey now! Don’t wait for the right people to come along or for things to be “perfect.” Start creating with what you have. Experiment. Let yourself be vulnerable. Don’t be afraid to start sharing your journey on social media and letting people into your life. Remember that you’re unique and people will want to see the real you and what only you can create.  What do you love most about your work? I love how my music continues to change and evolve as I grow and how all of my lyrics come from my heart. What is something you have struggled with in your journey? An artist’s journey is always tough. There’s this inner self battle, sometimes I question everything I’m doing. There’s always this self doubt and need for acceptance and it can be easy to give into the negative thoughts. My mind can wander into thinking how much easier it would be to have a normal job and not wonder how to pay rent month to month. But then I ask myself, would I ever be happy in a normal job? Would I ever be happy living a “normal” life? I know the answer to that and that’s why I keep pursing my passion and what I love. Best way to unwind after a long day? Cuddles with my dog, Kona Kai! Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years I’m going to have so much more music out, I’ve got some songs that are almost ready to be released right now that I can’t wait to share with y’all! I plan on touring the US then I’d love to tour globally and meet everyone who loves my music. LISTEN to KORYNN OC!! SPOTIFY
