A Little Less Alone with Holly Auna

How does your music affect the world?

My favorite thing about music is the ability to connect with others, I hope my music can make people feel less alone in this crazy world.

Who has been your biggest cheerleader as an artist?

My parents. When I was 13 I told my dad I wanted to learn to play guitar and he took me straight to the local guitar shop to help me sign up for lessons. They took me to hundreds of gigs, have listened to thousands of songs, and have just been more supportive than I could have ever dreamed. I couldn’t have done any of this without them.

Tell us about your latest release!

I released “Lonely” on October 15th! It went #1 on iTunes and passed 100k streams in the first month! This song is very special to me. I wrote down the hook, “I’m not alone, but I’m lonely” when I was in high school and almost a decade later I was finally able to put the song into the world. I sat on the idea for years because I think I had to truly live it before I could write it. I wrote “Lonely” in 2017 with Lydia Dall and Dan Kozlowski. I couldn’t have done it without my amazing band and co-producers, Dan Kozlowski, John Townsend, Ryan Oetken, and Matthew Foss.

What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

I was supposed to be on tour in 2020 with my boyfriend Joshua Hunt who is also a musician. I’m hoping that by the end of 2021 we will be able to play live shows again. I am also working towards my next album “Queen of the Concrete” which will (pandemic depending) be released in late 2021!

How do you find peace in an often chaotic world?

TikTok has honestly saved me this year. I started TikTok last December and really dove into the community when quarantine began in March. I recently partnered with TikTok, and I now go on TikTok LIVE every day for at least an hour playing original music to thousands of people all around the world. It has been such a blessing to be able to share my music with that community and be able to “tour” from the safety of my home.

What does "making it" mean to you?

To me, “making it,” is just being able to play and write music full time. All I want is to be able to sustainably play and write for the rest of my life. On a bigger scale, my two biggest goals are as a songwriter to have a number one on the radio, and as an artist to play the Ryman Auditorium.

What have been some of your greatest achievements as an artist?

In 2017 Reviver Recording artist Tenille Arts recorded a song we co-wrote with Lydia Dall called “There’s This Boy.” It was in rotation on SiriusXM and getting to hear something I wrote on the radio for the first time was amazing. My last album “Love Shouldn’t be So Hard” charted #12 on iTunes and my latest single “Lonely” charted #1 on iTunes.
