Tell us more about yourself, when did you know you wanted to be an artist?
When I was 12 years old(1995), ABC aired the Beatles anthology documentary. It was a big event in my household, especially since I had really started to get into the Beatles the previous year. While watching that series, I knew right then and there that I wanted to write, record, and perform music for a living.
Where are you located and where are you originally from?
I’m located in San Francisco, California. I’ve lived in the Bay area for 16 years. I’m originally from Rochester, New York. Born and raised there up until a couple of months just shy of my 20th birthday, when I moved out west.
Top musical influences?
The Beatles, James Brown, Prince, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Herbie Hancock, D’angelo, J Dilla, Michael Jackson, Frank Zappa, Yes, Gentle Giant to name a few of my tops.
Goals for 2019 and beyond?
- I’d really like to take my live band out of the Bay Area to play in different cities across the US and I’d also like to get my band over seas to England and to Europe.
- I have a Goal of writing more full length songs with lyrics this year
- My goal is always to increase my productivity while always getting better at music and raising the quality of my work. This year I’ll be moving my recording studio out of my home and into the historical studio D, located at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco. Studio D is where Herbie Hancock recorded Headhunters, Thrust, Secrets and more, The Pointer Sisters recorded “Yes We Can Can,” Crosby Stills and Nash recorded Deja Vu, and so many other classic albums. With studio D, I’ll be able to achieve this goal.
- My main Goal is to be heard by the masses enough so that I get the attention of my heroes. I want to produce and collaborate with artists like Erykah Badu, Q Tip, Paul McCartney, D’angelo, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, ?uestlove and so many more. Why not shoot for the stars?
Which comes first for you the lyrics or the musical inspo?
Almost always, the music comes first for me. If the song is begging for lyrics/vocals then that is the next step. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, it all comes at the same time.
Where can our readers catch a live show soon?
For now, if you want to see me live then you can catch me performing in the Bay Area, CA with my band or you can see me on any given night playing drums and singing with other local groups. After all, I am a working musician.
