Tears for Fears

Thank you for being part of our zine.  You have had an extraordinary career in music, tell us some of your favorite highlights!!

Three nights at Knebworth playing to 120000 people with Robbie Williams would have to be one of the big highlights..I do remember thinking i would never ever top that but in 2014 i was asked to play in Kiev Ukraine on new years eve with my band. It was literally days before the revolution. We were told there would be at least 50000 people there but they told me later that night there were around 500000 in the square. It was televised live..That would have to be the highlight of my solo career so far. I also supported Chris de Burgh in Europe performing solo acoustic shows on an arena tour. I also got to play a set at The Albert Hall in London which was fantastic.

When did you decide to live a life in music?

When I saw the band Status Quo on Top Of The Pops playing their ‘Caroline’ I loved their power& energy. My parents then took me to see them live at the Colston Hall in Bristol back in about 1973. The band Montrose were the support..What a brilliant night. I was hooked. I was seven when i saw my first ever concert which was Stevie Wonder but i fell to sleep! Ha ha

Where are you located and where are you originally from?

Born & based in the UK. I was originally from Bristol..Moved to Bath when i started playing with Tears For Fears & now settled in a small town called Bradford On Avon.  So i haven’t ventured too far from the South West Wiltshire area.

Goals for 2019 and beyond?

I would love to tour the the USA with my band. That is my life time goal to do a tour there. Who knows but i think people would enjoy the English flavoured rock/blues /pop blend. i would love to hear from anyone that could help with..? I’m also going to make a blues album in the near future..I’m not a blues player in the classic sense & not a fan of 12 bar blues but i would do my own twist on it.

What have been your specific challenges in your career so far?  What have been the greatest achievements so far?

There are more downs than ups & that is very hard to deal with..Living & waiting for that small percentage of highs to come around..Never knowing when that might be but i wouldn’t change it. The real challenge has been my solo career..Having to go from playing football stadiums with Robbie Williams to playing very small acoustic shows in Germany on my first album. One tour i did for 6 weeks. Not knowing each night if people would come to the show & sometimes i found it very soul destroying. My greatest achievements so far i would have to say would be releasing my 5th solo album. Playing Kebworth with Robbie Williams & playing Kiev to half a million people with my own band.

Where can our readers catch up with you out there soon?

I’m just off to Japan to play a show with famous Japanese guitarist Char..It’s a new project which i’m the singer in the band. We have half an album written.  I will also be doing a tour playing guitar for Chris de Burgh in UK & Europe in October/November & December. As far as my solo career..I just came back from a very successful tour of Austria..Not sure where it will lead me over the coming year..Lets see.

Please answer the following... "If my fans really knew me, they would know that… "

I have white hair & know every song from my past 5 albums..Best of luck with that one..ha ha
