THE BILLBOARD CHARTING ARTIST
Beautiful Music and A Powerful Anti Bullying Mission
Thank you for being part of our zine. Tell us more about your beginnings in the industry!
I’ve been writing and performing since age 10, and I come from a background in musical theatre which is what I went to school for. In college, I started putting out original songs and covers on my YouTube channel, which earned me over 180,000 subscribers and over 100,000 followers on Twitter and Instagram. I am passionate about making music and videos that inspire teens everywhere to believe in themselves and to not let anyone dull their shine. My first few singles, “Hero” and “I Am”, charted on iTunes and Billboard and won several awards, which led me further down the path of inspirational pop music.
Where are you located now and where are you originally from?
I’m originally from New Jersey, about 30 min outside of Manhattan, and I just moved to Nashville, TN in March :)
Goals for 2019 and beyond?
I just released a mini album and will be releasing 3 new singles the rest of the year, one of which is called “The Internet” and will be out August 23rd. It’s about the desensitization and insincerity of social media. Look out for that! :D
I also will be performing more in Nashville and NYC, and putting out consistent content on YouTube from covers to life advice to vlogs.
What have been the specific challenges in your career so far? What have been the greatest achievements so far?
Probably starting out graduating from college living at home, being in so much student debt and commuting into the city to work every day then would come home and record after. It’s also been hard dealing with online hate; for as many positive fans there are out there, there are also a lot of trolls.
I’m really proud of the anti-bullying mission I’ve been able to spread with my music. Whenever one person says “this song brightened my day” or “this song changed my life” it makes every single bad day worth it. I’m happy that that vision has taken me all the way to Nashville, and I’m excited for what’s to come.
Where can our readers catch up with you out there soon?
I have a show in Nashville at Analog at the Hutton Hotel on August 15th, and another one at the 5 spot on August 22nd. I’ll also be on YouTube and Instagram live-streaming and posting regularly :)
Please answer the following... "If my followers really knew me, they would know that... "
My main mission is to end teen bullying in high schools and bring people together through music — the universal language. I want to help other people be kind to themselves and be able to be their own heroes.
Who are your top inspirations?
Sara Bareilles, Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, Kanye West
I’m also super inspired by my fans, friends and family
Having accomplished so much in your career, are there more dreams you hope to conquer?
Definitely! I feel like I’m just getting started. I hope to reach a broader audience through songs that connect primarily with teens, who are most of my current fan base, but also people of all ages and backgrounds. I would also love to have some of my songs featured as theme songs and in TV shows/trailers. I also want to write for and with major artists.
Any words of wisdom for your fans out there?
Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do something, and try not to worry so much about what people think. It’s something I’m constantly struggling with personally in the industry but if you can really, authentically be your own biggest cheerleader, the universe will bring you the tools and opportunities you need to succeed. No matter what it is you want to do with your life.
