EMPOWERED WOMEN IN MUSIC
From Def Jam internship to the HEAD of HER OWN TABLE...
Thank you for being part of our zine. Tell us more about your beginnings in the industry!
Hi! I'm Jazmine, but you will probably end up calling me Jaz or Jazzy. I run JV Agency, a management and marketing agency!
I started as an intern the last summer before finishing school since I didn’t know anyone who worked in the industry, I decided to apply for a summer internship to get my foot in the door. I looked at the labels in NYC and found that the Island Def Jam Music Group had a majority of my favorite artists so I decided to apply there for my summer internship. I got the internship and that's how it all really started for me!
Where are you located now and where are you originally from?
I travel a lot now, I am currently writing this on a flight back to LA. I would say I'm based between NY and LA. I was born in Paris, France, traveled all over and then moved to NYC where I started my career in the music industry.
Goals for 2019 and beyond?
I just told a group of creative women that I have achieved my #1 goal for 2019 with less than 90 days left of the year. I'm continuing to work on my 2020 goals which include mentoring at least 5 more women in the music industry!
What have been the specific challenges in your career so far? What have been the greatest achievements so far?
Being a young woman in a male-dominated industry can be a challenge sometimes, you have to be able to read the room and take your place. One of my greatest achievements so far has been growing my company and my team in such a short time.
Where can our readers catch up with you out there soon?
The easiest way to find me is online, email/Instagram/website, I read and respond to all the messages I get! So feel free to reach out! Happy to connect with you!! I also host a series of dinners for creators to network and connect.
Please answer the following: "If my fans really knew me, they would know that... "
I love all animals, I will stop in the middle of the street just to pet a dog!
Who are your top inspirations?
Richard Branson and Sara Blakely
Having accomplished so much in your career, are there more dreams you hope to conquer?
Absolutely!! Every year I come up with a list of things I want to accomplish. 2020 will be a big year not only for myself but for the people around me! I'm extremely excited!!
Any words of wisdom for your fans out there?
Always be prepared, people can't question you if you know what you are talking about.
Please list your social media links so our readers can follow you everywhere!
Also, since this is a women's series we would love to hear any struggles of being a woman you've faced either in or out of the industry. Also, any advice for young women musicians
This is a topic that comes up often, being a woman in the music industry. Being a young woman in the music industry. The struggle doesn't come from my side but from other people in the industry that have a problem with this or can't seem to understand that is almost 2020 and women have an equal say and belong at the head of the table.
My advice is to don't be afraid to speak up and share your opinion. Always remember you have a voice and a mind of your own for a reason, so use it!!
