Nashville Girl On Fire
Pyro, Cryo, Confetti and Lasers... Read on to learn why this Nashville beauty is planning to takeover, by shooting for the STARS!
Thank you for being part of our zine. Tell us more about yourself, when did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I knew from a very young age that I would be an artist (it must have been 4-5 years old). I would grab microphones and sing at public events as a toddler. I loved arts and crafts and was constantly cross-stitching, puffy painting, drawing, painting, making up dance routines with my friends, or light brighting! As I grew into my teenage years, I was very involved with different musical singing groups as well as taking piano lessons and dancing. I always envisioned myself as a performer on the stage.
Where are you located and where are you originally from?
I recently went through a big move and transition from Los Angeles to Nashville and have been residing in Nashville since December of last year. My hometown is Wexford, Pennsylvania, which is a suburb north of Pittsburgh.
Top musical influences?
This is a hard one for me because I have been influenced by so much in my lifetime, but I will try to narrow the list to spare you the torture! One of the first pop artists I remember learning and singing along with was Stevie Wonder, which perhaps is why I am a singer and pianist. The Beatles, Janet Jackson.
Goals for 2019 and beyond?
To release this album that I've been working on for the past couple years! I've been waiting a long time to give new music to the world. Beyond 2019, well, I'd love to tour the world with my own music and have enough revenue to bring my child with me and if we're really shooting for the stars, hire my husband as the head effects designer for all the cool pyro, cryo, confetti, and lasers I'll have as part of the production.
Which comes first for you the lyrics or the musical inspo?
It depends on where I am and when. Sometimes I will be out having a drink with friends or at dinner or a movie, and a whole song idea will come into my head, I will sneak off to the bathroom or some place quiet for a few minutes to make a voice note in my phone of the melody and write down the lyrical ideas. There have been many times where I'm standing in a bathroom stall whispering into my phone while people are coming in and out flushing toilets and running the sink and hand dryer, lol! The same type of lyrical/melodic inspo also happens to me quite often while I am driving in the car. I have a lot of voice memos! If I am sitting down to write in my home studio, I usually sit at the piano or grab my acoustic guitar, and the melody, lyrics, and chords are written at the same time. If I am at a session with other writers or a producer, it's usually pieced together by starting with the Chorus concept and lyrical idea or a melody...then adding the verses and bridge. I love writing bridges, I would say bridges are my forte!
Where can our readers catch a live show soon?
I would like to release a few more songs from my upcoming album first before I do a full fledged live show. I anticipate I will be ready for the stage with my own music sometime in the fall (October/November), and it will be in Nashville! If you'd like to catch me performing with Rhye, check out the Rhye website for tour dates. I will be heading out in May and June for a bunch of shows in Mexico, Asia, North America, and Europe.
