Lucky Moves and New Music
"Keep Pushing and have FUN while you do it..."
Thank you for being part of our zine. Tell us more about your beginnings in the industry!
I think it was luck! Or maybe fate…After my mother immigrated here from Brazil, she began working as a housecleaner and one day while cleaning someone’s house she noticed platinum records and Grammys on the walls. She actually took pictures of them, texted me and said “does this mean anything?” I went crazy! I told her to get me in touch with whoever owned those records! Turns out the home was the mother of my now producer/manager, Marc Swersky. I called him and arranged a meeting and that’s how we met. We hit it off and I started collaborating with him and his songwriting partner and wife, Brielle Brown. All of the sudden we were writing my debut single “Stay In America”, launching the song and music video all at once. It was an amazing experience because my idea was (and still is) to be a voice for minorities, immigrants and dreamers.
Where are you located now and where are you originally from?
I am located in New Jersey! I was born in Long Branch, NJ but moved to Brazil when I was 8 and lived in 3 different states there for around 9 years. I guess you can say I’m not a big fan of routines. I decided to come back to the US when I was 17. It wasn’t an easy choice because I had to leave everything and everyone behind (including my parents). I knew that I needed to make the change to have better opportunities and to fulfill my dreams. I was also really struggling with some bad bullying in Brazil. I’ve always felt a little caught in between two worlds.
Goals for 2019 and beyond?
My most important goal is to try to get my name out there even more and make a bigger impact so that minorities feel like they can actually have a voice here in the US. There’s so much going on right now to silence us and I refuse to be silenced. And like every artist, I have a goal to be able to pay my own bills with the money I make from music. I’m also trying not to loose my head over the thoughts we have during our 20’s where we’re all so desperate to make it, to become someone, and are afraid of not knowing what the near future looks like.
What have been the specific challenges in your career so far? What have been the greatest achievements so far?
I think the biggest challenge is breaking through with so many talented people out there. You have to be bold and completely unafraid to put yourself out there. My greatest achievements…. well, I just released my 4th single “Evolution” and that alone is a huge accomplishment! My songs are at a quarter million streams on Spotify and growing, I’ve been getting to meet cool people in the industry, I’ve opened for Brazilian super star rapper Hungria, got signed by Onerpm and I recently became part of the C3 management family and I’m really looking forward to what the future holds with them! Also, I’m able to write, create new music and content with amazing people. That’s been really amazing.
Where can our readers catch up with you out there soon?
I’m on all social media! I’ll be doing more local performances around NJ and NY in the fall and hopefully in the near future in music festivals!
Please answer the following... "If my fans really knew me, they would know that... "
I really dislike racism, hate, sexism, homophobia and how there’s this one guy with so much power in his hands who is all that in one, setting the example for millions to follow thinking behavior like this is ok when really it’s regressing.
Who are your top inspirations?
My inspirations sometimes change depending on what I’m currently listening to or even just reading lyrics…Right now I’ve been reading a lot of Bob Dylan’s lyrics, listening to a lot of Lorde, Florence and the Machine, Lana Del Rey, The Neighbourhood and current pop music so I can understand what’s going on in the industry.
Having accomplished so much in your career, are there more dreams you hope to conquer?
Of course! There are always bigger dreams I hope to conquer. I really hope to get my name way more out there and get a bigger visibility, more plays to my songs, more money to be able to invest in my career so I can keep doing this for the long run. I think that’s every artist’s dream really…
